God’s Good Pleasure

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:31-36

We’ve all seen the headlines that childhood obesity is continuing to increase, causing undue suffering – both physical and emotional – for our sweet children. All of us want to help our children to be free from overweight, obesity, dieting, bulimia, or anorexia, as well as from all the terrible pain that comes from these coping mechanisms. But do not fear any longer. The answers are within your reach in the Word of God, as you make the choices that are in the will of the Father.

It seems like an overwhelming task to fight overweight and obesity for YOURSELF, much less for your children. We all want to be free and not be a slave to food or to anything on this earth. We do not want to pass our love for food down to our children along with the overweight and obesity that comes with it. We do not want to hurt Jesus by choosing to remain a slave to the sin of greed, for a slave has no permanent place in the family. The good news is that God has given us everything we need for life and godliness – for ourselves and our children. Once you transfer your love for food over to a wholehearted love for God, you can pass this freedom down to your children and your grandchildren. You will feel great and you will be able to translate this to your children, showing them by your own example and the NEW light in your eyes for God instead of the food.

Our children will pick up on these simple truths more quickly than we will. The Bible says, “At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure'” (Luke 10:21).

I know that it is certainly God’s good pleasure to draw all children unto Himself. When the heart of a child responds early in life to the Father, then he will not depart from it!
