Boasting About Tomorrow

V:4 N:19

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.
James 4:13-17

We looked at the first few verses of this last week, but now look at the ending. We are not to boast or brag about tomorrow! Never “boast” about what you have planned that you are going to be doing…but rather explain that you are looking for the will of God in all things, at all times. You can have a plan for the day – one that God has allowed for you – but always be ready and willing to change your plans if God takes you a different direction. Because look at verse 17 – “Anyone who KNOWS the good he ought to do and then DOESN’T, sins.” If God is putting a course of action on your heart today, and you are resisting it because you are selfishly keeping your own agenda, that is so scary! You are missing a leading from God Almighty! But if you go throughout your day always listening for and following God’s Spirit, you will be blessed by what He will show you!
