Temptations and Desire Eating
V:4 N:131
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
James 1:13-15
Once you begin to wait for true physiological hunger, you discover that there is another feeling of hunger. It is your own “I’m not hungry, but I want it anyway” attitude. In Weigh Down, we call this “desire eating” or “head hunger.” And it is really a deep desire to be your own god or boss.
To help you understand this idea, imagine a headstrong two-year-old child, prone to tempter tantrums, who sees a toy, desires it, beats his hands on the floor to speed up the service, then grabs the toy and holds it close with a tightened grip. The desire is very strong, and the temptation to give in is strong. But remember that this temptation does not come from God; it comes from your own evil desire. Remember, too, that this temptation will lead to sin, which will lead to death. Be aware of your temptations for what they are, and be strong when you stand up to them.
Think of God’s love for you, and run to Him when your temptations are strong, for He is the way of life. Be afraid of sin – this powerful force that leads to death when it is full-grown. Fear wanting to “play” God when you know you are NOT the creator and god of your body!
