He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
Philippians 2:5-7

I do not believe that we can read enough about humility and having no expectations. Read Isaiah 53 today — this is about our Lord, and therefore the footsteps that we are to follow! Also read Philippians 2:1-11 — we must strive to imitate this beautiful picture of Christ’s humility before the Father! Show God that you love Him wholeheartedly by having no expectations but only loving humility before Him, seeking His face and obeying His will! Then when the world asks you how come you have such a light when tests and trials are in your path, you answer that the Love of God is enough! It is everything that fills you up!
