Things That Block Kindness
Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness.
Romans 11:22
Before we move away from the scripture of “…love is kind” (1 Cor. 13:4), let’s look at one more area: things that can block kindness. The main block of kindness toward others is SELF-LOVE. If your focus is on fulfilling selfish desires, you will never consider the needs of those around you or the needs of God’s Kingdom. Psalm 109:16 states, “For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted.” A result of this self-love – and another major block to kindness — is a lack of true love for God! “Kind acts” without righteousness and love for God will not be kind…look at Proverbs 12:10: “A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” Check your heart today. Are self-love and selfish desires making you someone who “never thought of doing a kindness?” Is a lack of righteousness and love for God making your kind acts, in actuality, cruel acts? Get rid of the things that block true kindness so that God can work in you today!
